Chaminade Women Get First Win In An Overtime Thriller 83-79

Honolulu, HI- Playing the fourth game of their inaugural season, Chaminade took care of the Sea Warriors of Hawaii Pacific University.

HPU came out with an early lead but CUH closed the gap and were only down 5 at half, 36-31. The Swords came out strong in the second half taking the lead 40-38 with 15:52 remaining. The lead seesawed back and forth until Chaminade took a 10 point lead, 65-55 with 3:14 to go. The Sea Warriors would not give in and tied the game with nine seconds to go in regulation. Chaminade prevailed in overtime 83-79 for the first win of their inaugural season.

Brittnee Fonnesbeck led the charge for the Swords, shooting 12-21 from the field and 7-13 from the line, good for 31 points. Fonnesbeck also tore down a team high 13 rebounds to complete her double-double. Samantha Saito added 17 points on 3-9 from the field and 10-14 from the line. Simrin Cummins and Marian Murphy added 15 and 11 points respectively.

HPU was led by Ashley Jenkins who had 28 points on the afternoon.

With the win Chaminade improves to 1-3. HPU falls to 0-6 on the year. The Swords take on BYU-Hawaii Friday, December 8th, 2006 at 7:30PM in Laie.
