Laie, HI- Playing for the second time in three days and the fourth time overall, PacWest rivals Chaminade and BYU-Hawaii played another classic that went down to the last possession. A Seasider three to tie the game fell just short, and after a tip in, the Swords left the North Shore with a 67-66 victory.
The game was back and forth for 40 minutes with the lead seldom going over 5 points either way throughout. A Sword basket at the end of the first half put CUH up 35-32 at the break. The second half was more of the same with both teams making tough plays to keep the game tight. A Dylan McCune three put the Swords up five, but BYU-H answered and had the Chaminade lead to 1 when Paul Peterson hit a contested three with under a minute remaining. The Seasiders then fouled and senior Chris Reaves proceeded to hit 4 free throws in the final minute, all in the one and one situation to preserve the win.
Chris Nelson led Chaminade with 17, while Chris Reaves added 14 points to go along with 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Zack Whiting added 8 assists and Chris Powell had 6 rebounds to go along with 10 points and 3 blocks in the win.
Eric Boyce led the Seasiders 16 points in the loss.
With the win, Chaminade improves to 15-7 overall and 7-2 in PacWest play. BYU-Hawaii is 11-9, 4-4 in the PacWest.
CUH returns home on Tuesday night to face UH-Hilo. Tip is set for 7:30pm.
