Seattle, WA- In the opening game of the NCAA tournament West Regional, CUH defeated Alaska-Anchorage 84-67 on the campus of Seattle Pacific.
Chris Reaves put in another All-American performance, scoring 32 points in a variety of ways while having 5 assists and 2 steals. Backcourt mate, Zack Whiting had a double-double, recording 11 points, 12 assists and 7 rebounds in the win. Marko Kolaric played a stellar game as well for Chaminade, adding 14 points to go along with 14 rebounds and 4 blocks on the evening.
The Swords shot 54% from the field, 42% from the arc and 86% from the line and held UAA to 41% from the floor. UAA star, Kemmy Burgess, was held to 12 points, 9 below his season average. Chaminade also outrebounded the Seawolves, 38-28.
CUH led 39-26 at the half. Chaminade will next face #2 seed, Western Washington, who defeated Humboldt State in their first round game, at 5pm on Saturday at Seattle Pacific University. The winner of that game will advance to the regional championship on Monday at 7pm. The win was Chaminade;s 19th of the year, and first NCAA tournament win in the school's history.
