Swords Men's Soccer Falls In Home Opener

Honolulu, HI- In Chaminade Men's Soccer's first ever match, a valiant effort came up short as the Eagles of Embry-Riddle (AZ) defeated the Swords 2-0 at Varsity Field on the Chaminade campus Saturday afternoon.

It was a tough start for CUH, as Embry-Riddle struck early on with a goal from Rafael Ferreira under a minute in. The Swords were unable to garner any offensive chances on goal in the early going.

Chaminade was feisty to start the second half with the support of 150 loyal fans. CUH managed a couple solid scoring opportunities in the second half, including two chances from Carlos Navarro, and forced E-R keeper Guillermo Lara to make 3 second half saves. The Eagles added an insurance goal just short of eight minutes in to the second half off of the foot of Felipe Ferreira.

Chaminade falls to 0-1 on the year, while Embry Riddle improves 2-2-1 on the year. The Swords next play in the Hawaii Challenge Cup. The Swords face BYU-Hawaii at 5PM Friday, September 8, 2006 at Waipio.
