Belmont, CA- No road win is easy. Tonight proved it once again, as a gritty Notre Dame De Namur team fought Chaminade tooth and nail in a 64-62 OT CUH win.
The Swords went to the break tied with the Argonauts 22-22. Chaminade managed just 36% from the floor, while NDNU couldn't do any better, shooting 27% in the opening twenty minutes. The second half proved to be better for CUH, with the Swords opening up with a 7-0 run for a 29-22 lead.
The end of regulation would see a Chaminade possession finish with Zack Whiting's runner in traffic falling just short, and the ensuing NDNU half court heave by Ryan Cooper go off the backboard, sending the game into overtime.
The Argos continued to push in overtime and led 60-58 with just over two minutes remaining. Chaminade would answer, as Zack Whiting hit a top of the key three on Ryan Cooper to go up 61-60. A tough shot by NDNU's Dan Bergeron put the Argonauts up 62-61 for their final lead of the contest. Zack Whiting hit two free throws on the Swords next possession and put Chaminade back on top for good. A steal and the ensuing free throw by Hayden Heiber amounted for the final score as Eric Bossom's 15 footer came up well short and the Swords left with the 64-62 OT victory.
Whiting led the Swords with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Marko Kolaric added 12 points and 9 rebounds and Stewart Kussler added 15 points and 4 rebounds in the win.
Hayden Heiber had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in thirty minutes of action for Chaminade.
NDNU was led by the hot-shooting of Ryan Cooper, who had 24 points on 9-17 from the floor. Chris Clock, coming in scoring 12.3 points per game, had 3 points on 1-7 shooting.
With the win, Chaminade improves to 11-6, 3-2 in Pac West Play. NDNU goes to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in the PacWest.
The two teams meet again tomorrow, January 18th. Game time is set for 7:30 PM at NDNU.
