Lahaina, HI- If only the word Marquette started with a "V". Virginia and Villanova nearly had company yesterday as the Swords fell 74-63 after being within three points of the Golden Eagles with thirty-five minutes gone by in the opening game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
CUH trailed 39 to 30 heading into halftime after a very competitive first half. It didn't stay that way for long as Chaminade quickly went on a 6-0 run to start the second half to cut it to 39-36.
Senior Marko Kolaric, scored a team high 19 points and added 14 rebounds, dominating inside throughout. 6'7" junior forward Rodrick Johnson scored 13 points for Chaminade in only 19 minutes of action, due to early foul trouble. Senior Hayden Heiber grabbed 6 rebounds to go along with 8 points for the Silverswords.
Marquette junior, Jerel McNeal, lead the way for the Golden Eagles with 22 points.
"Marquette is a very good basketball team, with great guards. I thought our team played great against the best defensive pressure we will see all year" commented Coach Mahar.
With the loss, the Silverswords fall to 1-1 overall. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-0 overall. Chaminade plays the Tigers of LSU at 8:30AM HST on November 20th at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui.
