Laie, HI- It was over. The Silverswords were up by three with only seconds left on the clock at the end of regulation. However, the game went to overtime Eric Boyce hit a running three pointer from the corner to tie the game with 2.2 seconds remaining.
Eric Boyce hit another big three in overtime as the Seasiders defeated Chaminade 93-89.
Chaminade was led by Zack Whiting, who proved again why he's one of the best player's in all of Division II, scoring 35 points to go along with 10 assists and 8 rebounds. Junior guard Hayden Heiber added 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Darrell Birton added 14 points in defeat.
Coach Mahar on the outcome: "Unfortunately someone had to lose. Credit Eric Boyce for making the shot, that's an awfully tough shot to make. They have a talented team, so do we. I'm really proud of the way we responded, down double-digits late in the second half, to having BYU-H make the shot to tie us. That says an awful lot about our guys".
BYU-Hawaii was led by Lucas Alves with 24 points 7 rebounds while Wu Tai-Hao added 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the win.
Chaminade falls to 13-8, 5-4 and BYU-Hawaii improves to 17-5, 9-1 on the year.
The Swords are back in action February 14th against Grand Canyon University at 7:30PM HT, McCabe Gym.
