Swords Softball Rallies to Defeat BYU-Hawaii in Game Two 7-2

Kailua, HI- Chaminade struggled in game one, falling to the Seasiders 15-2, but rallied in game two finishing off BYU-Hawaii 7-2.

Despite a two run homer by Sasaki in the bottom of the first inning, the Swords fell to the Seasiders by a final score of 15-2. The game started quickly as Chaminade answered BYU-Hawaii's two runs in the first inning with two runs of their own. The Sword offense slowed down after that and the Seasiders continued to pour it on, finishing the game with eleven hits, scoring fifteen runs to end the game after five innings.

The Swords battled back in game two, matching the Seasiders run for run, with one in the bottom of the second and one in the bottom of the fifth and entered the sixth inning all knotted up at 2-2. CUH held BYUH in the top of the sixth and headed to the bottom of the sixth still tied. Then the bats started to swing for the Swords. Crystal Weseman singled and advanced to second on a fielding error by the left fielder. Samantha Saito then singled to centerfield moving the go ahead run to third base. Saito then stole second base. Anina Quaranto then grounded out to the pitcher, but Weseman scored on an error by the pitcher to take the lead. The damage had been done, and CUH continued on.

Chico Mihara then tripled to left field scoring Saito. Carolyn Fisher singled to the shortstop and Mihara added another run. Brandi Sasaki came up to bat with Fisher on first and hit a two run blast over the fence to go ahead 7-2. FIsher handled the Seasiders in the seventh striking out two of the next three batters and Gnadt grounded out as the Swords won the game 7-2.

Brandi Sasaki led both teams, going five for six on the afternoon with two home runs and four RBI's. Carolyn Fisher posted three hits and two RBI's and Caila McEachen racked up three hits of her own.

Dewey led the Seasiders with four hits and three RBI's on the day.

With the win the Swords move to 8-41 on the season and BYU-Hawaii falls to 18-29.

The Silverswords now hit the road to face Hawaii Pacific University. First pitch is scheduled for May 5, at 12:00PM HT.
