Honolulu, HI - The Chaminade University Athletics Department is holding an innovative logo contest in August, hoping to find an athletics logo as unique as the university's mascot: the Silverswords.
The contest provides a great opportunity for emerging artists and graphic designers to showcase their abilities and contribute to the growing athletics program at Chaminade. Applicants from across the USA are encouraged to send in entries.
Any logo submitted should be simple but captivating, clearly recognizable, and possess the ability to have a future mascot tie-in. The logo will be used on all promotional and developmental materials, the www.goswords.com website, branded merchandise, athletic uniforms, and coaches attire.
In addition to artistic exposure, the winner of the Logo Contest will either receive a trip to the 2007 EA Sports Maui Invitational*, where the new logo will be revealed in a halftime ceremony, and $200 spending cash or a $500 cash prize (to be chosen by winner). The contest, open to anyone 18 years or older, begins August 1, 2007 and concludes September 1, 2007.
"This will provide a great opportunity for creative artists to contribute to our university," stated Kaia Hedlund, Chaminade Director of Athletics. "The logo we choose will be used for years to come and will be synonymous with the Chaminade and our outstanding sports programs."
To enter the contest, applicants must submit their logos by either mail or e-mail. Complete contest rules and regulations, as well as entry information, can be found at www.goswords.com.
The Chaminade University Silverswords are identified with the rare Silversword plant, found on Haleakala, a dormant volcano on the island of Maui. The flowers of the exotic plant are said to resemble the cross, the symbol of Christian faith. The Silversword grows up to 20 years before it produces a single, one to nine foot tall flower.
The Silverswords currently compete at NCAA Division II level in ten varsity sports. These sports are: basketball (men's and women's), cross-country (men's and women's), men's golf, soccer (men's and women's), women's softball, women's tennis and women's volleyball.
Chaminade University of Honolulu is a small, Catholic, comprehensive university sponsored by the Province of the United States of America of the Society of Mary (Marianists). It is located on a hillside in suburban Honolulu. As the only Catholic university in Hawaii, Chaminade affirms a commitment to the integration of intellectual skills, Marianist values, social responsibility and cultural awareness.
