Hilo, HI - Chaminade finished off the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay in their final match of the Hawai`ian Style Tournament in strong fashion. The Swords go undefeated in their first four matches of the season.
The Silverswords proved too strong for the Otters with a solid all around game. Once again the team-work of the Swords was the key to another victory. With a powerful attacking game, precision passing and a stifling defensive presence, CUH topped Cal State Monterey Bay in 3 straight games, 30-24, 30-22, 30-23.
The Swords offense was led by dual attack of Evelyn Bluthenthal and Trina Kauliakamoa with thirteen and ten kills respectively. Bluthenthal finished the night with a .600 attack percentage to lead all players. Tanya Alvino dished out twenty seven assists and fifteen digs.
The defense was anchored by Krista Catian and Samantha Miller with twenty-two and seventeen digs respectively.
"It is nice to be 4-0 after this tournament, the level of competition was certainly strong. We were able to work out a lot of kinks but there is still a lot of work to be done," commented Coach Adams after the game.
The Otter's were led by Courtney Taubert with fourteen kills and Dana Grimm with thirty-one assists.
The win lifts the Swords to 4-0 on the season while the Otter's drop to 0-4.
The Swords are back in action Thursday August 30 against UC San Diego at the first annual Hawai`i Invitational at McCabe Gym.
