Prescott, AZ- The search for a win had already ended. Now, a winning streak has begun.
Embry Riddle having beat Chaminade University three times in its only three meetings surely expected another victory. It was not to be for the Eagles. This story was written with a Silversword ending, as Marc Contee scored the game winner on a free kick early in the second half and CUH held on, despite being down to ten men for the final twenty minutes.
The game was intense throughout, with Chaminade slowing Embry-Riddle and their potent attack.
Darren Smith was stellar for Chaminade, making a case for player of the week nominations with 22 saves in goal, denying Embry-Riddle at every turn.
Coach Barry commented afterwards, "Our first game against Embry-Riddle was last year (Chaminade Men's Soccer's inaugural year) and we lost 2-0. We went to Prescott last year and lost 7-0. This year was different. They got us 3-2 in Honolulu earlier this year and we knew. We all wanted them to know that this was not going to be 7-0. The players gave tremendous effort. We certainly showed them."
CUH is now 2-8-1, while Embry-Riddle falls to 6-5. The Swords are back in action this weekend (Saturday) at home against BYU-Hawaii. The match is set to start at 4PM.
