Honolulu, HI- A slow start was nearly overcome, but the 26th ranked Panthers of Drury got a late basket by Chris Ijames to take a 75-73 victory over the Silverswords.
The Swords started behind early, falling down 8-0 and trailed by 10 points at the break. Chaminade committed 13 turnovers in the opening half.
The Swords came back with a vengeance in the second twenty minutes. The Swords came out and held the lead for a majority of a back and forth second half. CUH connected on 12 threes, 4 each by Joel Smith, Darrell Birton and Shane Hanson. The Swords also dominated the glass, winning 39-24.
Senior Mohamed Tangara shot 7-9 from the floor, finishing with 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Joel Smith added 14 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Shane Hanson also added 9 rebounds, along with 12 points.
The Swords shot 50% from the field and from three.
Chris Ijames led with 23 points for Drury.
Chaminade falls to 1-5 on the year. Drury improves to 7-2. The Swords play again on Thursday against Washburn on December 18th at the Blaisdell Center Game time is set for 4:00 PM HT.
