CUH MBB: Swords Fall to Seasiders 105-97

Birton finishes with 27 in defeat

Honolulu, HI- The Swords ran into a hot shooting BYU-Hawaii team tonight, as Chaminade fell to the Seasiders 105-97. 

 

The first half was riddled with fouls as three Chaminade starters were saddled with 3 fouls in the first six minutes of the opening half.  Lucas Alves had 18 points in the opening 20 minutes, but Chaminade's Darrell Birton and Jamar Berry had 15 and 13 points respectively to keep the game within striking distance at 57-44 at the break. 

 

The second half saw more up and down action as BYU-Hawaii continued their hot shooting, but the Swords matched it, knocking down seven three's in the second twenty minutes.  Joel Smith had 15 second half points, after sitting most of the first half with fouls. 

 

Five Swords scored in double figures as Cartier Carter added 15 points and Rickey Clayborn added 12 points in defeat.  BYU-Hawaii out-rebounded CUH 46-33.

 

Lucas Alves led BYU-Hawaii with 28 points on the night.   

 

Chaminade falls to 6-7 on the year, 3-2 in the Pac West conference.  BYU-Hawaii moves to 10-1.  The Swords are back in action on Monday night (Jan 19th) vs. Hawaii Pacific.  Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT.
