CUH MBB: Swords Handle HPU 86-70

Jamar Berry leads with double-double (20 points, 12 rebounds)

Honolulu, HI- HPU led Chaminade after 20 minutes by a score of 40-33.  By the eight minute mark in the second half, the game was in Chaminade's hands, as the Swords went on a 36-12 run in the opening 12 minutes of the second stanza. 

 

Five Swords scored in double figures, led by junior Jamar Berry with 20 points and 12 rebounds.  Both Darrell Birton and Mohamed Tangara added 15 points, while the senior center also added 9 rebounds. 

 

Chaminade out-rebounded HPU 33-29.  Chaminade also had a season-low 5 turnovers.  CUH shot a blazing 64% in the second twenty minutes.

 

 

Noah Gottlieb added 14 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds.  The Swords also got 13 points and 5 rebounds from Joel Smith.

 

Cliff Hodge led the Sea Warriors with 22 points on 6-8 shooting from three.  The Swords have won all three meetings with HPU.    

 

Chaminade improves to 12-8 on the year, and remains 7-3 in the Pac West conference.  HPU moves to 9-12 overall. The Swords are back in action at Hawaii-Hilo on February 20th. Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT at the UHH Gymnasium.
