Honolulu, HI- Chaminade took care of this one early. The Swords were up 11-2 in the first four minutes and never looked back, defeating HPU convincingly, 86-69.
Senior center Mohamed Tangara continued his stellar play with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Noah Gottlieb was solid, contributing 14 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Joel Smith had an all around effort with 13 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds. The Swords had their highest assist total of the year with 27.
Darrell Birton knocked down three three's on his way to 11 points, while junior forward Rickey Clayborn added 13 points on a perfect 6-6 shooting.
Chaminade out-rebounded HPU 40-27. Chaminade had eight players play 8 minutes or more. CUH shot 52% on the night. Junior guard Jamar Berry continues to fill up the stat sheet, getting 7 rebounds and 5 assists to along with a 2 points, a block and a steal.
Mike Helton led the Sea Warriors with 16 points on 4-6 shooting from three. The Swords swept HPU, winning all four matchups this year.
Chaminade improves to 14-9 on the year, and remains 7-4 in the Pac West conference. HPU moves to 9-13 overall. The Swords are back in action vs. the #3 ranked team in the nation, BYU-Hawaii on February 27th. Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT at the Cannon Center in Laie, HI.
