Honolulu, HI- The Swords started strong, but fell to Westminster 4-1 this afternoon at St. Louis Field.
Chaminade came out defending the Griffins well, and took advantage of an opportunity to put a scare into Westminster. The Swords goalie, Marissa Minor stopped some early chances and Chaminade earned a corner kick that they were ready to take advantage of midway through the first half. Casey Boggioni took the corner and found the head of sophomore Whitney Williams who placed it into the back of the net for a 1-0 Silversword lead in the 25th minute.
Chaminade took that momentum and went into the halftime break with the one goal advantage.
The first twenty plus minutes of the second half were a stalemate as CUH held off the Griffins and Marissa Minor stopped all Westminster chances.
As the half went on, Westminster managed to break through, scoring four unanswered goals. Chaminade played with 9 or 10 women for the last twenty five minutes of the match.
Nicole Taylor took 10 shots for Westminster, recording 1 assist. Megan Maldonado, Brinna Bennion, Tanisia Wilson and Rachel Watson scored the goals for the Griffins.
Chaminade managed 2 shots to Westminster's 47.
Marissa Minor was stellar in defeat, stopping 23 shots for CUH.
With the loss, the Lady Swords move to 0-2. Westminster moves to 1-4 on the year. Chaminade is back in action on September 14th against UH-Hilo. The game will be played on St. Louis Field at Noon (HT).
