Lahaina, HI –Chaminade defeated the Sooners of Oklahoma in day three of the EA Sports Maui Invitational, winning 68 to 64 in what was the Silverswords sixth all-time win in the tournament. The Swords were led by
Shane Hanson (Temecula, CA / Temecula) with 23 points; including five three's in the win.
Senior
Steven Bennett (Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey) went 6 for 12 from the floor, including the go ahead lay-up with sixteen seconds remaining to put the Swords ahead 66-64. Junior center
Mamadou Diarra (Bamako, Mali/Stoneridge) had another double-double in the win with 15 points and 11 rebounds, including two crucial free throws with eight seconds left to ice the win. A last gasp three by Calvin Newell fell short as Hanson corralled his seventh and final rebound as the Swords won by four, 68-64.
Chaminade led by ten points with 8:47 to go on a three-pointer by
Shane Hanson. The Sooners would not go away as a layup by Oklahoma's Andrew Fitzgerald tied the game at 64-64 with 48 seconds remaining, prior to Bennett's go-ahead layup for Chaminade.
Senior Cade Davis led the way for the Sooners with 24 points.
CUH won the rebounding battle 31-28 and had 11 offensive rebounds. The Swords shot 46% from the floor, while Oklahoma shot 47%.
The Silverswords will take on Carleton on Sunday, November 28
th at 1 PM HT in McCabe Gym. With the win, CUH moves to 4-2 overall and Oklahoma falls to 3-3 on the year.
