HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade fell to TAMIU tonight at McCabe Gym by a score of 77-63.
The Dustdevils jumped all over a listless Silversword team, and held a commanding 44-23 lead at the break. Chaminade responded in the second half, trimming the lead to eight, but the first half deficit proved too much to overcome as TAMIU prevailed.
Junior
Chris Curtis (Tustin, CA/Tustin) led the Chaminade effort with 22 points on 9-12 shooting, including some spirited drives in the second half.
Sophomore guard
Waly Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali/Patterson Prep) helped the Swords from the arc, knocking down three threes and tallying 11 points on the night. Overall, CUH struggled from three, taking 19 three's and making only 4.
Junior center
Mamadou Diarra (Bamako, Mali/Stoneridge) was held to just four points and five rebounds, while senior guard
Steven Bennett struggled to connect as well, going 2-11 from the floor and 0-7 from three. Senior forward
Shane Hanson also had an off night, shooting 2-7 and 1-6 from three. The trio is currently averaging 41 points per game, and tallied only 19 points on the evening.
TAMIU shot 59% from the floor and 50% from three on the night. Chaminade lost the battle of the glass 31-24. Seven Dustdevils tallied three or more rebounds, while only four Silverswords had three or more.
Shane Hanson led Chaminade with 8 rebounds.
Texas A&M International was led by junior Evan Matteson with 18 points on 8-14 shooting in the win. Luis Gomez also added 18 points in the win.
Texas A&M International moves to 8-4 with the win. The Swords go to 7-5 on the year in defeat. The Swords are off until January 6th, when they face NDNU at home. First tip is at 7:30 PM HT.
