CUH MBB: Chaminade Takes Down Academy of Art in Pac West Battle, 70-66

HONOLULU, HI- The Swords made it two in a row this evening, defeating the Urban Knights 70-66 in Pac West Conference action. Chaminade and Academy of Art were tied at 35-35 at intermission and the Urban Knights continued to stay close throughout the second half.
 
The Swords came up with big defensive stops late in the ball game and a Waly Coulibaly three helped preserve the win. Steven Bennett (Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey) had 10 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 17 minutes of action for CUH. 
 
Chaminade was led by junior Matt Cousins (Santa Rosa, CA/Cardinal Newman) and sophomore Waly Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali/Patterson Prep) with 15 points and 14 points respectively in the win. Coulibaly also added 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Junior center Mamadou Diarra added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, connecting on 7-8 free throws in thirty-six minutes of action.
 
CUH guard Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, AUS/ Holy Spirit College) had 5 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, while junior De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) had 9 points in the win. 
 
The Swords connected on six threes on the night and the Urban Knights matched that with 6 three's of their own. 
 
AAU was led by Keith Davis with 20 points on 7-19 shooting in the defeat. 
 
Chaminade moves to 9-5 with the win, 2-0 in the Pac West. The Urban Knights go to 3-9, (0-2 in the Pac West) with the defeat. The Swords are back in action on January 10th, when they face Dominican (CA) at home. First tip is set for 7:30 PM HT. Listen live at: http://www.audiosportsonline.net/Winter/2010Basketball/Chaminade.htm
