Honolulu, HI – The Lady Swords took on the Antelopes of Grand Canyon University tonight and fell by a score of 88 to 48. Chaminade only trailed by seven points at the break, 25 to 32, however, GCU came out on “fire” and outscored CUH 56 to 23 in the second half.
Chaminade was led by Freshman
Jordan Ahakuelo, she led the team with 12 points and 4 boards. Junior
Kayci Will also contributed with 11 points and 4 boards and Junior
Kellene Costello rounded out Chaminade with 8 points.
The Antelopes had three players in double digits; ALL PACWEST Guard, Samantha Murphy scored 24 points and 4 rebounds. Rosalyn Nelson added 18 points and Maylinn Smith added 14 points.
GCU shot an impressive 61% from the floor during the second half, connecting on 23 of 38 shots taken. Simply put, they connected on practically everything they threw up. Despite the Lady Swords solid effort tonight, the 61% was too much of an obstacle for them to overcome. CUH shot 43% in the first half and shot 36% during the second half.
With the loss Chaminade falls to 1-20 on the year and 1-13 in the PacWest. The Antelopes of Grand Canyon University improve to 25-2 overall and 13-1 overall in the PacWest Conference. The Lady Swords are back in action on Wednesday, March 2nd at McCabe Gym when they square off against # 3 ranked Dixie State University of Saint George, Utah.
