Box Score BELMONT, CA – Chaminade lost to NDNU tonight 58-33 in a PacWest Conference road contest.
Chaminade fell behind 29-16 after twenty minutes of action. The Swords were led by
Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha) early on, who had seven first half points. The Argos went on a 16-4 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to lead 45-20 with just under twelve minutes remaining in the contest. CUH could not find their shooting touch in the second half as NDNU won comfortably, 58-33.
Kaneaiakala continued her solid play in the second half, finishing with 13 points and 9 rebounds for Chaminade. Sophomore guard
Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) added 9 points and snagged 7 rebounds (4 offensive) for CUH. Senior Kelly Costello (Wixom, MI / Walled Lake Central) finished with 6 points and 3 rebounds in defeat. Costello had two of Chaminade's three makes from long distance.
CUH shot 23% (12-52) from the floor for the game, while Notre Dame de Namur shot 38%.
Coach Keanini on the loss: “NDNU played us zone and we got good shots. Our defense was good. Our energy was very good. We played very hard. Our possessions were great. The ball goes in the basket, and the game would've changed. It didn't. There are a lot of real positive things. NDNU played well. We need to keep playing the way we are playing and we will get out of this shooting slump.”
NDNU was led by with Emily Vore with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Chaminade lost the battle of the boards with the Argonauts 46-29.
Chaminade is back in PacWest action on Jan. 23rd at Academy of Art (5:00 PM PT). The next home contest is Jan. 30th against Grand Canyon. Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
The Swords are now 0-12, 0-6 PWC on the year, while NDNU goes to 4-12, 2-6 PWC.
