Box Score HONOLULU, HI – The Silverswords took on the D-One Stars tonight in McCabe Gym in the exhibition opener for Chaminade. CUH fell by a final score of 78-47.
The D-One Stars, featuring many former NCAA Division I players, got out to a 44-18 halftime lead behind 13 first half points from Nikki Fu. Chaminade freshman forward
Kennedi Akana (Kailua, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) got her career off to a quick start, scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds in the opening twenty minutes of action for the Silverswords. CUH shot 6-38 from the floor in the first half, but was impressive on the offensive glass, corralling 10 offensive rebounds. The Swords also had 8 first half steals.
Chaminade's offense got going in the second half, helped by freshman
Sabrina Angle's hot-shooting. Angle (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) connected on five threes on the contest and led CUH in scoring with 15 points.
Junior guard
Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) had nine points to go along with six rebounds for the Swords while senior point guard
Dianna Zane (Honolulu, HI /Roosevelt) added 4 steals to lead Chaminade in that category.
Chaminade shot 25% from the floor and 8-32 from three. The D-One Stars shot 51% for the night.
The D-One Stars were led by Jamie Smith with 24 points and 13 rebounds. The Silverswords lost the battle on the glass with the Stars, 50-36.
