Box Score HONOLULU, HI – The Swords took on Dixie State in a PacWest conference matchup this evening in McCabe Gym falling to the Red Storm by a score of 86-49.
Dixie State, currently tied for second in the PacWest Conference with Cal Baptist and Grand Canyon, was looking to avoid the upset at the hands of the Silverswords. CUH was ready to go leading 10-9 early on after a
Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, Pearl City) steal and fast-break layup. Following a Red Storm timeout, Dixie exerted control of the contest, responding with 17-5 run to lead 27-14 midway through the half. The Red Storm led 49-22 at the break.
Ahakuelo led the Swords with 7 points and 3 rebounds in the half. Dixie State was led by Becca Thomas with 15 first half points. CUH shot 28% from the floor in the first half, while Dixie State shot 65% from the field.
The Swords continued to compete in the second twenty minutes, but it was not enough as the Red Storm won the contest going away, shooting 50% in the second half and 57% for the game.
The Silverswords shot 28% for the contest. Chaminade was led by Ahakuelo, who finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds for CUH, while senior Kelly Costello (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake) added 9 points in defeat.
Dixie State was led by Becca Thomas with 25 points. Dixie State won the battle on the glass, 43-26. Both teams struggled with turnovers as the Red Storm committed 22 while the Swords had 23 on the night.
Chaminade is back at home for PacWest action on Feb. 4th against Cal Baptist. Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT in McCabe Gym. The event on Saturday night will also feature the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii. The Boys and Girls Club will be playing mini-games at halftime of both the women's and men's contests.
The Swords are now 0-15, 0-9 PWC on the year, while Dixie State goes to 13-5 8-2 PWC.
