CUH WBB: Swords Downed by Lancers of Cal Baptist 82-61

Costello leads with hot shooting, scoring 15 points

Box Score HONOLULU, HI –Chaminade and the Lancers of Cal Baptist took the court on different paths.  CBU was looking to stay in the conference title race, while the Swords were looking for their first conference win.
 
Early on, CUH and Cal Baptist struggled to create separation from each other.  When senior Kelly Costello (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake)  connected from long distance with 13:36 left in the first half it was her third three in as many attempts and it gave Chaminade a 13-10 lead.  Over the next five minutes, Cal Baptist responded with a 13-0 run and led 23-13 with just over seven minutes remaining. 
 
The Swords responded right back.  After trailing 29-16 to Cal Baptist, the Swords went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 29-22 on a Nikki Tauau (Oxnard, CA/Pacifica) layup with 3:57 remaining.  
 
The Lancers responded and led 40-27 at the break.
 
Cal Baptist remained in control for the remainder of the contest, leading by double-figures for the entirety of the second half.  The Lancers won the contest 82-61.
 
Chaminade's Kelly Costello (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake) led the way with 15 points, going 5-8 from three in defeat.  Sophomore Markeshia Manning added 9 points and 8 rebounds, while junior forward Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha) tacked on 9 points and 5 rebounds.   Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) and Nikki Tauau both had 11 points for CUH.  The Swords shot 35% for the contest, while CBU shot 48% from the field. 
 
The Lancers won the rebounding battle 43-34.  Chaminade was impressive from behind the arc, connecting on 10 of 24 shots from long-distance, shooting a scorching hot 42%.   
 
Cal Baptist was led by Simone Holmes with 20 points. 
 
Chaminade is back at home for PacWest action on Feb. 8th against BYU-Hawaii. Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
 
The Swords are now 0-16, 0-10 PWC on the year, while Cal Baptist goes to 16-3, 9-2 PWC.
