Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, CA- Chaminade took on a talented Urban Knights team at the Kezar Pavilion this afternoon and lost 78-45.
The last contest on a four-game road trip started well for Chaminade as the Swords went up on ARTU early on in the contest. The Swords led for a majority of the early minutes before the Urban Knights Jordan Rogers tied the contest at 12-12 with a layup just over eleven minutes left in the first half. A 22-5 ARTU run over the next eight minutes gave the Urban Knights a comfortable double-digit lead at 34-17 late in the first twenty minutes of action. Academy of Art led 37-20 at the half.
Senior
Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) led CUH with 7 points and 9 rebounds at the half. The Swords worked hard on the glass and only trailed 29-27 at halftime in the category. Chaminade committed 18 first half turnovers. Regina Camera led ARTU with 9 first half points.
The Urban Knights extended the halftime lead in the second half, leading 62-34 after a Jordan Rogers layup following the under eight-minute media timeout in the second half. ARTU won the contest 78-45.
Senior point guard
Dianna Zane (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) led Chaminade with 13 points in the loss. Freshman forward
Kennedi Akana (Kailua, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) continued her rapid improvement as a freshman, tallying 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Rhani Kaneaiakala finished with 9 points and 10 rebounds. The Swords shot 28% from the floor but also held the Urban Knights to 36% shooting.
Academy of Art was led by Regina Camera with 14 points.
Coach Keanini commented on the matchup: “We did things this afternoon that will make us a better basketball team. Regardless of the score, we showed discipline and did things correctly. I'm happy with the performance.”
With the defeat, Chaminade moves to 1-14, 1-9 PWC. With the win, ARTU moves to 13-5, 6-2 in the PWC on the year. The Swords head back to Oahu to face BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, February 2
