Box Score HONOLULU, HI- In the third of three contests against Holy Names since New Year's Eve, Chaminade fell to the Hawks 102-80 this evening in McCabe Gym.
The Hawks came out ready to go and led 19-5 at the first media timeout. Chaminade got going offensively in response, but trailed 25-12 with 12:01 left. The Hawks of Holy Names led 34-16 midway through the first half, but the Silverswords responded with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 34-24 with 8:28 remaining in the first half. The Silverswords trailed 53-39 at the break.
Chaminade was led by senior
Markeshia Manning (Kapolei, HI/Pearl City) in the first half with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman
Sabrina Angle (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) and senior point guard
Dianna Zane (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) added 7 points each in the half. CUH shot 39% in the half while the Hawks shot 43% from the floor.
Chaminade continued to hustle their way back into the contest, and trailed by five, 60-55 with 13:35 left in the contest following a layup by freshman
Kennedi Akana (Kailua, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama). The Swords hung in, getting key lay-ups to stay close. Leading by just six at 71-65, HNU responded with a 9-0 run to lead 80-65 with 6:01 left. Holy Names took care of business from there and won 102-80.
The Swords shot 42% from the floor for the contest, while HNU shot 42% as well. The Hawks out-rebound CUH 72-36, including 28 offensive rebounds.
Kennedi Akana led CUH with 16 points and 7 rebounds, while
Dianna Zane added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss.
Freshman
Shana Kawakami (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) added 9 points for Chaminade.
HNU was led by Annie Mahaney with 22 points in the non-conference affair. Dominique Williams added 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Hawks in the win.
With the defeat, Chaminade moves to 1-7, 1-2 PWC. Holy Names moves to 7-5, 1-2 PWC on the year. The Swords take on Dominican (CA) Monday, January 7
th in McCabe Gym. Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT.
