Box Score HONOLULU – The Chaminade women's basketball team opened the 2013-14 season with a 76-60 setback to Alaska Sunday afternoon at McCabe Gym.
The Silverswords (0-1) were led by
Glacen Florita's 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Freshman
Lilia Maio made her Swords' debut with 10 points.
Benissa Bulaya led the Nanooks (3-0) with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor while pulling down six rebounds. Jordan Wilson added 13.
After Florita's jumper gave the Swords the lead at 4-2 a minute in, the Nanooks held the Swords without a field goal for nearly nine minutes, establishing a 20-point lead at 25-5.
The CUH deficit swelled to as many as 26 early in the second half, but the Swords showed resiliency, outscoring Alaska, 37-29, in the frame.
Despite shooting 35.9 percent in the game, Chaminade shot nearly 46 percent in the second half (17-of-37) while holding the Nanooks to 36 percent (12-of-33) in the second stanza.
