WBB: Azusa Pacific Defeats the Swords 95-54

Box Score HONOLULU, HI- The Silverswords fell to the Cougars of Azusa Pacific 95-47 in a PacWest Conference contest this evening in McCabe Gym.
 
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first half, leading 12-0 five minutes into the game. Chaminade responded with eight points from Shana Kawakami (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) as the 'Swords closed to 21-10 with 11:25 remaining in the first half, but APU led, 46-24, at the half.
 
Chaminade turned the ball over 14 times in the first half while APU only had six giveaways. The Cougars out-rebounded the 'Swords, 25-19, in the first stanza, while shooting 45% to CUH's 31%.  
 
CUH senior Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had eight points in the first half to tie Kawakami for the team lead.
 
Azusa Pacific continued to pull away early in the second half with a 19-11 run to build the lead to 30 points with 13:09 remaining in the game.
 
The Cougars maintained their lead and won the contest, 95-54.
 
The 'Swords were led by Hanna Curtius (Medford, OR/South Medford) with 10 points, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Kaneaiakala and Nikki Tauau (Oxnard, CA/Pacifica) followed with 9 points while Kawakami and Markeshia Manning (Kapolei, HI/Pearl City) had 8. Manning also had 10 rebounds, while Kaneaiakala pulled down 7.
 
Azusa Pacific was led by Maddy Barrett with 17 points.
 
With the defeat, Chaminade moves to 1-20, 1-15 PWC.  With the win, Azusa Pacific moves to 14-9, 11-4 in the PWC on the year. The Swords head to UH-Hilo and UHH Gymnasium on February 26th. Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT.
