Box Score HONOLULU, HI- The Silverswords dropped a PacWest Conference matchup to the Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii tonight, 102-76 in McCabe Gym.
BYU-Hawaii got off to a quick start, leading 14-4 at the first media timeout. Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo had two three's for BYU-Hawaii. Chaminade responded with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 14-11 just one minute later and forced a Seasider timeout with 14:27 left in the first half. Sabrina Angle (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) kept the score close as CUH trailed by one point, 19-18.
The Seasiders looked to pressure Chaminade into turnovers, and extended their lead to 43-27 with 3:32 left in the half by forcing 13 turnovers. CUH hung tough, shooting 45% and trailed 53-37 at the break. BYU-Hawaii shot 54% in the half.
Sabrina Angle led Chaminade with 9 points, while senior
Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) added 8 points and 4 rebounds in the half. Tatupu-Leopoldo led the 'Siders with 18 first half points on six made three's.
The Seasiders kept the pressure up in the second half and led 66-41 with 15:25 left in the contest. BYU-Hawaii maintained the lead throughout the half and won the contest, 102-76.
Rhani Kaneaiakala led Chaminade with 12 points, while freshman forward
Kennedi Akana (Kailua, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Junior
Shamyra Daigle (Lafayette, LA / Elsik) added 11 points and a team high 6 steals.
BYU-Hawaii was led by Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo with 29 points and 8 rebounds, while Shayla Washington had 25 points. BYU-H out-rebounded CUH 40-31 on the night. The 'Siders shot 51% from the floor, while Chaminade shot 50%
With the defeat, Chaminade moves to 1-17, 1-12 PWC. With the win, BYU-Hawaii moves to 6-12, 5-7 in the PWC on the year. The Swords face Point Loma Nazarene on Wednesday, February 13
th at McCabe Gym. Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT.
