Lady ’Swords Hoops Drops Decision to HPU

Maio had a career-high 20 points Saturday at HPU.
Box Score HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team's journey to snap a seven-year losing streak to in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific will have to wait another year.

The Silverswords couldn't stave off a hot-shooting Sea Warriors squad in the second half, en-route to a 103-68 Pacific West Conference loss Saturday at Moanalua High School Gym. The setback extended the 'Swords losing streak to the Sea Warriors to 18 games dating back to 2007.

However, in defeat, freshman Lilia Maio tossed in a season-high 20 points, hitting 7-of-11 from the floor and all six of her free throw attempts. Sabrina Angle had a season- and career-tying high of 13 points, hitting four 3-pointers on the evening.

Six players hit the double-figure mark in scoring for HPU, led by Brittany Hale's and Veanne Navarro's 17 points. Morganne Comstock notched a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. The Sea Warriors shot a whopping 59.6 percent from the floor (19-of-32) in the second half.

Chaminade fell to 1-11 overall and 1-5 in the PacWest while HPU improved to 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

The 'Swords managed to hang around in the early stages of the game, working a 6-all tie less than four minutes in the game. But a 22-6 run by the home team would put the game away early.

Chaminade will play its intra-O'ahu road trip, when they visit BYU-Hawai'i Tuesday in Laie. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and live streaming audio will be available on goswords.com.
