Urban Knights WBB Runs Away From ’Swords, 120-69

Akana set a new career-high with 20 points against Art U.
Box Score HONOLULU – Sophomore forward Kennedi Akana has established herself as the Chaminade University women's basketball team's top scorer over the last few games. Unfortunately for her and rest of the her Silverswords teammates, even her new career high in points wasn't enough to offset Academy of Art, which set a record of its own on Wednesday.

The Urban Knights set the school scoring record established only two days prior with a 120-69 win over the Silverswords in a Pacific West Conference game at McCabe Gym. Art U had previously set their program standard with 101 points Wednesday at BYU-Hawai'i. The 120 points was also a Chaminade opponent record, which was established three times, most recently by Hawai'i Pacific on February 25, 2011. The win kept Academy of Art perfect in the PacWest at 7-0 (10-5 overall). Chaminade fell to 1-10 and 1-4.

Akana scored 20 points against the Urban Knights, setting a personal best that she tied on Wednesday against Dominican University of California. The Kamehameha-Kapalama graduate was 10-of-16 from the floor, becoming the first Lady 'Sword to make 10 field goals in a game in nearly four years. Her 62.5 field goal percentage is second-best in program history.

Krystal Forthan, an LSU transfer who recently had become eligible to play, led a group of six double-digit scorers for Art U, with a game-high 24 points with nine rebounds. Molly O'Brien had 20 points while Aleigh Krug recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

CUH had its only lead of the game with an Akana bucket on its opening possession, but the Urban Knights replied with a 24-6 run to take a 24-8 advantage seven minutes into the game.

Freshmen Lilia Maio, Carissa McBride and Kristle Henry each had 12 for the 'Swords. McBride also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Art U shot 55.3 percent from the floor (47-of-85) with 46 rebounds, 19 assists and hit 21-of-29 from the foul line (72.4 percent). Conversely, the Silverswords were 44.4 percent from the floor (28-of-63) with 34 rebounds, 13 assists while making 12-of-23 from the foul line. CUH also committed 25 turnovers.

The Silverswords will be on the road to face HPU on Saturday at Moanalua High School with a 4:30 p.m. tip time. Live streaming audio will be available on goswordscom.
