’Swords Open Road Swing with Rout of Argos

BELMONT, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's basketball team opened their Bay Area road swing with a 102-62 win over Notre Dame de Namur Saturday at Walter Gleason Gym.

All 10 Silverswords who saw action on the floor recorded at least one field goal, led by Lee Bailey's season-high 23 points. Kiran Shastri had 21, hitting 5-of-7 from beyond 3-point range as the 'Swords hit the century mark for the first time this season.

The win gave Chaminade its first winning streak since the opening of the season, improving the team to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Argonauts, who were led by Jamaal Davis' 23 points, fell to 3-13 and 2-8.

The 'Swords shot a blistering 61 percent in the game, hitting 36-of-59 from the field, the team's best shooting percentage since a 61.1 percentage in a win over Alaska-Anchorage on Dec. 2008. They were also 15-of-25 in 3-point shots.

Kevin Hu added 16 points for Chaminade while James Harper had 14. Kuany Kuany had a team-high eight rebounds while Bailey also dished out five assists.

Bailey was 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from triples land. Meanwhile, Hu continued to put the ball in the basket, hitting 6-of-8 against the Argos. The junior from Taipei, Taiwan, is shooting 66.7 percent from the floor (48-of-72) since Dec. 4.

The 40-point margin of victory is the largest since a 102-56 win over Golden Baptist in Nov. 2007.

In a sign of things to come, the Silverswords hit eight of their first 10 attempts to start the game as Chaminade held a 22-7 lead just six minutes in as its starting five each got in the scorebook, led by Bailey's seven. By the time the Argos could put together back-to-back scores, Chaminade already held a 48-29 lead with 1:54 left in the first half. The Silverswords led 52-31 at the break, their highest first half scoring output of the season.

The Silverswords shot 58.1 percent (18-of-31) in the first half while holding the Argos to just under 46. They also hit half of their 3-point tries (8-of-16).

The second half was more of the same as the 'Swords shots kept falling. Their efficiency was even better in the final 20 minutes, shooting 64.3 percent (18-of-28) and was 7-of-9 from 3-point range.

The Silverswords continue their road trip Monday when they face Academy of Art.
