SAN DIEGO – The Chaminade University men's soccer team ended their first Mainland road trip of the year with a 2-0 loss Monday to Point Loma at the PLNU Soccer/Track Complex.
The Silverswords fell to 0-9 on the year and 0-6 in the Pacific West Conference. The Sea Lions improved to 6-3-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
In the 32
nd minutes, PLNU's Andrew Ritchie was taken down just inside the box and converted the subsequent penalty kick for the game's first score.
It remained 1-0 until the Sea Lions added their second goal seven minutes into the second half when Daniel ten Bosch hit a shot from nine yards out.
Chaminade had several opportunities to get on the scoreboard. In the 34
th minute, Point Loma committed a foul just outside the box but
Lukas Pousset's free kick was deflected away just shy of the goal.
Also, in the 61
st minute, the Silverswords intercepted a pass, catching Point Loma goalkeeper Avrin Yakou who had wandered too far outside the box but the 'Swords couldn't get a clear shot at the net amid a scrum of players.
Rene Mejia got the nod at the net for Chaminade, making eight saves. Yakou had four saves in picking up the win.
The 'Swords were out-shot 19-12 with
Nicolas Ferro taking four, three on goal. Pousset had CUH's other shot on goal while
Guilherme Aires took three attempts at the net.
The Silverswords return home Saturday when they face intercity rival Hawai'i Pacific at Saint Louis Field. This will be the team's first match in the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge.
