’Swords Drop 1-0 Decision at Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Chaminade University men's soccer team took the Pacific West Conference contenders Dixie State to the limit before falling 1-0 Saturday at Flyers Stadium on the Dixie High School campus.

The game's lone score came on a Gabby Medina goal just under nine minutes into the contest from a crossing pass from Zach Leon which clipped the foot of a Silverswords defender.

Chaminade fell to 1-13 overall and 1-10 in the Pacific West Conference. The win improved Dixie State's record to 10-1-4 and 8-0-4 in the conference and moved it into a first-place tie atop the PacWest standings with Fresno Pacific.

The 'Swords possessed the ball much throughout the first half despite allowing the early goal.

Chaminade had several opportunities to tack on the equalizer in the second half but shots by Lukas Pousset and Ryan Arkelian late in the game were saved by DSU keeper Bradley Trella.

Bernd Buescherhoff got the start and made four saves on the afternoon the 'Swords with his record falling to 1-5. Trella picked up the win, stopping three shots.

Pousset took two shots, both on goal while Arkelian had Chaminade's other SOG. James Meaney attempted two shots.

The Silverswords return to Saint Louis Field for their final home match of the year on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Pousset, Meaney, Stiven Buritica, Nicolas Ferro, Trevor Freeman, Cameron Heen, Quan Ho,  Manuel Ibarra, Rene Mejia and Giovanni Reader will be honored on Senior Day.
