’Swords Fall to Sharks at Blaisdell Center

HONOLULU – For all the recent success of the Chaminade University women's basketball team, their intercity rivals still have their number.

Hawai'i Pacific University got 19 points and 11 rebounds from All-Pacific West Conference forward Morganne Comstock as the Silverswords' slide against the Sharks continued Sunday in an 86-47 loss at the Blaisdell Center. It was the team's first game in the famed building since Feb. 2011.

Lilia Maio led the 'Swords with 16 points and six rebounds as Chaminade fell to 5-13 overall and 5-9 in the PacWest.

The win moved the Sharks back atop the PacWest standings at 13-2 in the conference, a half-game ahead of California Baptist. HPU also improved to 18-4 overall.

The loss is the 20th straight to the Sharks, dating back to Feb. 2007.

A relatively close game at the start, HPU used runs of 14-3 and 10-0 to grab a decisive 47-21 lead at halftime.

The 'Swords opened the second half with seven straight on five points from Maio and a jumper from Glacen Florita to close to 46-28. But Chaminade went the next six minutes without a score as HPU went on a 15-0 run to help put the game away.

Florita and Carissa McBride both had nine points on the day. Florita was 4-for-6 from the floor while McBride was 3-for-4, including two 3-pointers.

Breanna Mackenzie had 16 points for HPU while Kylie Huerta contributed with 12.

The Sharks were 29-for-58 from the field for 50 percent while Chaminade was 17-of-51 for 33.3 percent. HPU dominated on the boards 44-24 and dished out 18 assists to Chaminade's three. The 'Swords hit six 3s on the day.

The 'Swords are back in action on Thursday as they start their final Mainland road trip of the season at Dixie State.
