HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team dropped their second game of the season, losing 84-79 Saturday at Moanalua High School Gym.
The Silverswords nearly rallied from a 15-point third quarter deficit but fell short down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
Lilia Maio scored 19 points, hitting eight of her 10 shots from the floor, inching her closer to the 1,000-point plateau. The Kamehameha-Kapalama graduate sits at 966 career points. She also pulled down eight rebounds.
Kristle Henry added 17 points in the loss while
Destiny Castro had 10 for Chaminade which fell to 0-2 on the season.
Carissa Webb and
Courtney Kaupu each had eight points.
The Oaks (1-1) got 23 points from Olivia Carroll and 21 from Chelsea Jellison.
Trailing 43-36 at the half, the 'Swords were outscored 10-2 out of the break and trailed 53-38 at the 6:36 mark of the third quarter. However in the fourth, Chaminade rallied as Henry hit three straight shots to pull the Silverswords to within four.
OCU increased their lead to 80-71 with 1:48 left but Maio hit two shots and Castro another as the 'Swords closed to within three with a minute left. But it would be as close as they got.
After dishing out only four assists Wednesday to Central Washington, the 'Swords got 15 dimes and also pulled down 39 boards after getting only 20 three days prior.
The Silverswords will next be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 when they open Pacific West Conference action against Hawai'i Hilo. Live audio coverage will be on GoSwords.com.
