Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

’Swords Defeated by No. 8 Seawolves

HONOLULU –Chaminade University was hoping to complete the trifecta against Alaska Anchorage teams this season but Wednesday's result was not to be for the school's women's basketball team.

While the women's volleyball and men's basketball squads each had convincing wins over UAA's nationally-ranked teams in those respective sports earlier this season, the women's hoops team could not keep up with the No. 8 Seawolves, falling 99-60 at McCabe Gym.

Taylor Babbitt had a career-high 14 points, making four 3-pointers, to lead the Silverswords who fell to 1-6 on the year.

Alysha Devine was near perfect for the Seawolves from the field, hitting 7 of 8 shots and all four 3-point tries for a game-high 21 points as Alaska Anchorage improved to 8-1 on the year.

Kristle Henry had 13 points and seven rebounds for Chaminade while Lilia Maio had 10 and a pair of blocks. Courtney Kaupu added eight points.

The Silverswords' 60 points is the most in they've scored in 11-game series between the two schools. The 'Swords put up 57 in each of previous two meetings against UAA.

Chaminade showed no fear against the Seawolves trapping defense as buckets by Kali Benavente, Maio and a three-point play from Henry sparked the 'Swords to a quick 7-4 lead. They continued to add on as Henry streaked down the court for back-to-back fast-break layups followed by a Babbit jumper, giving them a 13-8 lead. But Devine scored eight straight points including a pair of triples to give the Seawolves the lead for good midway through the first quarter.

UAA tacked on in the second and held a 51-35 halftime lead then outscored the 'Swords 24-7 in the third to put the game away.

Alaska Anchorage managed to force 27 turnovers but their aggressive defense also caused them to commit 21 fouls. Ten of the 11 Seawolves seeing action was whistled for at least one infraction. Chaminade managed to get to the line 16 times, converting 13.
