HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team fell to Hawai'i Pacific University, 92-58, in a Pacific West Conference game Sunday at the Neal Blaisdell Center.
Senior forward
Lilia Maio scored a season-high 24 points to become only the second Silversword in program history to reach the career millennium mark. The Nanakuli native reached the feat with a fade-away jumper at the 3:38 mark of the first quarter and ended the day with 1,017 career points. She needs 125 to pass Samantha Saito to become the program's all-time leading scorer.
Kristle Henry added 11 points, three assists and three steals while
Carissa Webb had 10 points and five rebounds for the Silverswords who fell to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the PacWest.
Destiny Castro had seven points and a career-high 10 boards while fellow freshman
Kali Benavente had four assists.
VeAnne Navarro led the Sharks (4-2, 2-0 PacWest) with 22 points.
The game was locked in a 17-all tie after the game's first 10 minutes but HPU's 24-6 second quarter helped give them a 41-23 halftime lead which Chaminade could not recover.
The Silverswords travel to the Big Island to face Hawai'i Hilo Saturday.
