’Swords Close Showcase with Loss

SAN FRANCISCO –The Chaminade University women's volleyball team closed the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase with a straight set loss to Simon Fraser at San Francisco State University on Saturday.
 
Kim Spring and Daisia LaBrie each had eight kills for the Silverswords in the 25-22, 25-15, 25-20 loss. Cassie Rushlow contributed with six kills and five total blocks. Spring and Waihilo Chartrand both led the 'Swords with 10 digs each.
 
Natashya Enos had 21 assists to give her 1,017 in her career to become only the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 career assists.
 
The Silverswords fell to 6-3 overall and finished the Showcase 1-3.
 
Emma Jennings led the Clan (6-1) with a match-high 13 kills.
 
The 'Swords got off to a slow start as SFU opened the match on an 11-5 run but managed to close to within 23-22 on a late 3-0 run. However the Clan got a service error and block to win the first set.
 
Simon Fraser went up 2-0 with the help of a 10-1 midway through the second set.
 
SFU opened up a 15-8 advantage in the third set to send Chaminade to its first straight set loss of the season.
 
Spring tallied 49 total kills in the four matches at the Showcase while LaBrie had 46 while hitting .439. Rushlow led the 'Swords in the Showcase with 14 totals blocks while other category leaders were Enos (94 assists) and Kiriu-Dela Cruz (47 digs).
 
The Silverswords open Pacific West Conference action next Saturday against in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific.
