Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls to Concordia

HONOLULU – For 89 minutes and four seconds on Tuesday, the Chaminade University women's soccer team played an excellent game. However they would certainly like to replay the other 56 seconds.

Concordia University Irvine scored twice during that span – at the end of the first half and the start of the second – to capture a 2-0 win over the Silverswords at Saint Louis Field.

The loss dropped the 'Swords to 1-7-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the Pacific West Conference. The Eagles improved to 5-6-1 and 3-3.

Marianna Maldonado tapped in a goal with six seconds remaining in the first half then Cienah Jones found the back of the net just 50 seconds into the second.

The 'Swords, however, still managed to play well against the conference's third-highest goal scoring team (1.55 goals per game entering Tuesday) despite a roster that has been ravaged by injury in the past week.

Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Pearl City) took a pair of the 'Swords' seven overall shots. Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt), Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) and Sharon Cain (Honolulu/Kamehameha-Kapalama) each had one shot on-goal.

Goalkeeper Brandee Lane made nine saves for Chaminade while her counterpart, Kaelyn Whitcomb, had three.

The 'Swords were without the services of senior midfielder Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) who suffered a season-ending ankle injury Saturday against Biola, ending her streak of 55 consecutive starts. Fellow senior Alyssa Tanigawa (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) got her first start this season in her stead and logged a season-high 78 minutes.

Playing all 90 minutes were Wong, Breanna-Leigh Bactista (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani), Jordan Taboniar (Anahola, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama), Kyla Takazono (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City). Wong has not exited a game for the last 16 contests dating back to last season and has played a game in its entirety in 32 of her last 34.

The Silverswords return to the Saint Louis School Field pitch a final time this season on Saturday when they host first-place Point Loma. The team will honor seniors Lane, Nishiki, Tanigawa, Tatemichi, Bianca Gonzales (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) and Megan Mararagan (Honolulu/Kalani) following the game. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.
