’Swords Set Shots Record at ART U

SAN FRANCISCO – The Chaminade University women's soccer team concluded their final mainland contest of the season with a 1-0 loss Monday to Academy of Art at Paul Goode Field.

The Silverswords attempted a program-record 25 shots in defeat, breaking the previous record of 19 set last year at Notre Dame de Namur. Six players took their season-highs in shots attempted with three setting career marks.

The Urban Knights' Mikayla Lopez scored the game's lone goal heading in the 12th minute off a corner kick.

Chaminade fell to 1-11-1 overall and 0-9-1 in the Pacific West Conference. ART U improved to 8-7-2 and 2-6-2.

Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) made two saves in facing eight Urban Knight shots. Morgan Wirz of ART U made three saves to pick up the win but was knocked out of the game in the 18th minute. Lara Pflicke replaced her and played the final 71 in preserving the victory.

Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Pearl City) led the 'Swords in shots with six, a career-high which included her freshman year at the University of Hawai'i. Other upperclassmen setting career marks in shots attempted were Breanna-Leigh Bactista (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) with five and Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) with two.

Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) took a season-high five shots at the net. Freshman Dayna Nishimura (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) also took a season-best with four shots.

Four of Bactista's shots were on-goal while Tatemichi had two SOGs.

The Silverswords will end the season Saturday in a PacWest Hawai'i matchup against intercity rival Hawai'i Pacific University at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. It will also mark the first-ever game on the state's most famous pitch for the 'Swords.
