BELMONT, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team ended their first mainland road trip with a 1-1 draw Sunday against Notre Dame de Namur at Koret Field.
Freshman
Noah Mokulehua (Waimanalo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser) accounted for the Silverswords' lone goal of afternoon. Chaminade is 2-3-1 on the year while the Argonauts are 2-7-1. Both teams are 1-2-1 in the Pacific West Conference.
The Argos stunned the 'Swords just 25 seconds into the match, scoring a goal from Josh Santillian.
But Chaminade responded in the 29th minute when NDNU failed to clear the ball deep in its own backfield where Mokulehua fired the loose ball into the goal to knot the game. It was Mokulehua's first career goal which also gave him the team's points lead with four.
Neither team was able to get the winner in the second half and in both 10-minute overtime sessions.
Michael Stafford (Honolulu/Iowa Western CC/Kalani HS) made two saves.
Chaminade attempted 13 shots, forcing NDNU keeper Javier Santana to make seven stops.
Reece Hambly (Birmingham, England/Scottsdale CC/Hagley HS) took a team-high five shots for the 'Swords with
Curtis Coburn (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) took three. Hambly, Coburn and
Jamin Fonseca (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) each attempted two shots on-goal.
For the 'Swords it was the first-ever non-loss against the Argos since the series began in 2006. Chaminade came into the contest 0-15 lifetime against NDNU.
The Silverswords return to the Saint Louis Field pitch on Saturday when they host Biola. Kickoff is set for noon.
