HILO, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season Friday, defeating Saint Martin's University 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 25-18 at the First Hawaiian Bank Volleyball Challenge at the University of Hawai'i Hilo Gymnasium.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and
Alana Handy (Burlington, Wash./Bethune-Cookman Univ./Burlington-Edison HS) each put down 13 kills while
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) added 12. Handy also had 17 digs while Reedy hit .526 on the afternoon.
The Saints (0-2) were led by Rachel Gondrezick's 11 kills.
The Silverswords' middles of
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College/Calvin Christian HS) and
Terezie Cernosek (Valencia, Calif./Valencia) were particularly effective at the net, combining for 11 combined blocks with Chaminade amassing 11 total blocks.
Handy,
Nina Torio (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) and
Tate Lutu (Honolulu/Sacred Hearts) combined for six of the team's eight service aces.
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) and
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) dished out 23 and 22 assists, respectively.
The Silverswords will conclude the Challenge with two matches on Saturday. They face St. Cloud State at 8 a.m. followed by UC San Diego at 2:30 p.m.
