HONOLULU – After having 19 days off, the Chaminade University men's soccer team returned to action and saw the Saint Louis Field pitch for the first time this season in their Pacific West Conference opener.
However the Silverswords dropped a 3-0 decision to Azusa Pacific amid humid conditions on Thursday.
The Cougars (4-1-1, 1-0 PacWest) scored twice in a six-minute span early in the match then added a third goal 11 minutes into the second half.
The 'Swords fell to 0-2 and 0-1 in the conference.
Reece Hambly (Birmingham, England/Scottsdale CC/Hagley HS) took a team-best three shots with
Noah Mokulehua (Waimanalo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser),
Jaewon Huh (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Aiea) and
Lono Kaialau (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Damien) attempted one shot each.
Michael Stafford (Honolulu/Iowa Western CC/Kalani HS) made five saves on the day.
Gabriel Costa and Arturo Astorga scored at the 13th and 19th minutes, respectively, for APU while keeper Nathaniel Linquiest did not have to make a save in picking up the win.
The Silverswords are back in action this Saturday when they host Hawai'i Hilo at Saint Louis Field starting at 12 p.m.
