ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Chaminade University women's basketball team wrapped up their trip to the Land of the Midnight Sun on Sunday with a 92-47 loss to the University of Alaska at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Cheyenne Ardona (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) set a career-high with 11 points and tied another with seven rebounds for the Silverswords (0-2) while
Grace Underhill (River Forest, Ill/Oak Park-River Forest) tied her career-best with eight points.
Michaella Dean (Irvine, Calif./Orange Lutheran) contributed with seven points and eight boards.
Destiny Castro (Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS), who on Saturday moved to No. 2 in the program's all-time scoring list, was held to just five points.
Sam Tolliver and Kylie Wallace co-led Alaska with 18 points each.
Chaminade was held to 20.3 percent shooting. However they did out-rebound the Nanooks, 47-43, including a 23-13 advantage on the offensive glass.
The 'Swords had trouble finding the bottom of the net in the first half, going nearly 11 minutes without a made basket spanning the first and second quarters.
Chaminade played a competitive fourth quarter with Underhill scoring all her points in the final 10 minutes with a pair of 3-pointers and two free throws. The 'Swords outscored Alaska 19-14 in the frame.
The Silverswords return home to open the O'ahu Thanksgiving Classic against the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at The Shark Tank, the new home of Hawai'i Pacific University at the former Saint Francis School in Manoa Valley. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
