AZUSA, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team ended their Southern California road trip with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Azusa Pacific Saturday at the Cougars Soccer Complex.
The Cougars snapped a 1-1 deadlock with a goal by Kayla Grisham with just 1 minute and 23 seconds remaining in the game.
Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Pearl City HS) got the Silverswords' goal coming in the ninth minute, just three minutes after Azusa Pacific scored the game's opening goal. It is the junior's team-leading fourth goal this season.
Fontes led the 'Swords with three shots attempted while
Dayna Nishimura (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) and
Asya Holt (Honolulu/Roosevelt) had a shot each.
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) made three saves for Chaminade (1-7-3 overall, 1-6-1 Pacific West Conference). Isabelle Decker got the win for APU (7-5-2, 3-3-1 PacWest).
The Silverswords return to the Saint Louis Field pitch next Saturday against Academy of Art. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
