NAMPA, Idaho – The Chaminade University women's soccer team opened the 2021 regular season Thursday by dropping a 1-0 decision at nationally-ranked Northwest Nazerene.
Making their first-ever non-conference road trip east of the Pacific time zone, the Silverswords saw the 11th-ranked Nighthawks' Makayla Roggow head in a corner kick off the foot of Magda Wronski in the 64th minute for the match's only score.
Chaminade (0-1) dropped its season opener for just the third time in the past seven years. The loss also snapped their program-record four-match undefeated streak dating back to this past spring season.
'Swords goalkeeper
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) made six saves – several being highlight-reel worthy – while
Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, O'ahu, Hawai'i/University of Hawai'i/Pearl City HS) and
Asya Holt (Honolulu/Roosevelt) attempted two shots each.
In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, Chaminade took six total shots while NNU (1-0) fired 14. Four of the 'Swords' tries at the net were on-goal.
Takata took the loss while Alexis Montoya earned the win.
The 'Swords will remain in Nampa to face Central Washington on Saturday.
