Men’s Soccer Drops Decision to Holy Names

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team on Thursday dropped a 3-1 count to visiting Holy Names University at Saint Louis Field.

Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) accounted for the Silverswords' lone goal as they fell to 1-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Hawks improved to 5-3-3 and 3-1 in the conference.

HNU got on the board first with a goal by Erik Arias in the 24th minute. However Chaminade found itself in a bind when a red card in the 40th minute forced them to go a player down for the remainder of the game.

However that did not deter the 'Swords from getting the equalizer. With time winding down in the first half, Chaminade found itself with a numbers advantage inside the HNU box. Kevin Yulkowski (Miami/Cutler Bay) fired a shot towards the net, which was deflected by Holy Names keeper Mallel Rios. Caba was in the right place at the right time, sticking in the put-back for a short-handed goal, which squared the match, becoming the first Silvesword with multiple goals this season. Yulkowski got the assist for his first career point.

However, the man-advantage finally caught up with the 'Swords when Gabriel Ventura scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute. HNU added an insurance goal 13 minutes later.

Chaminade took seven shots, five on-goal, with Caba attempting two. The Hawks took 21 shots on the afternoon with 10 on target.

Gabriel Schroeder (Reno, Nev./Galena) made his first career start and appearance inside the goal for Chaminade, making five saves.

Rios had three stops for the Hawks.

The Silverswords will wrap up their current home stand Tuesday when they face Fresno Pacific at the Saint Louis pitch. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
