IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team wrapped up their Southern California road trip Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to Concordia University Irvine at Eagles Soccer Field.
The Silverswords fell to 7-5-3 overall and 4-2-3 in the Pacific West Conference while the Golden Eagles are 10-4-2 and 5-2-1.
Analisa Gjonovich accounted for the game's lone score, coming in the 20th minute, scoring when Olivia Ocampo made a crossing pass from the left side of the box. With the defense over-committing to the kick-side, Gjonovich came from the far post and flicked the ball in.
After being held to just two shots in the first half, the 'Swords became the aggressors in the final 45 minutes, launching five shots and earning two corner kicks. Chaminade came within inches of squaring the match but a
Asya Holt (Honolulu/Roosevelt) header off a corner grazed off the hand of CUI keeper Riley Urquiza and off the post in the 70th minute.
The Silverswords' final chance at the game tying score came off the foot of
Isabella Narvaez (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) in the 78th minute but missed high over the cross bar.
Narvaez took two shots as did
Gracie Bowers (Murrieta, Calif./California Baptist/Vista Murrieta HS). Holt,
Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino) and
Clara Slate-Liu (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada/Ecolè Alpha Secondary) each had single looks at the net.
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) made four saves including one in the 84th minute which kept the score at a one-goal game.
Urquiza made two saves and played 85 minutes before being pulled for Hailey Asato in the final five minutes on the Golden Eagles' senior day.
The Silverswords will finish their season next Saturday when they host in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. The team will celebrate the final games for several seniors following the game.
