WAIMEA, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team made their only outside-of-O'ahu competition Sunday, facing the University of Hawai'i Hilo in two matches at the Seaside Tennis Club on the Big Island's west side.
The Silverswords dropped the morning match, 7-0, as well as the afternoon session, 4-0.
UH Hilo took two of the three opening doubles matches to take the point. No. 1 doubles was not completed with Chaminade's team of
Kayleen Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Salamasina Robertson (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kahuku) trailing just 4-2.
The Vulcans took all six singles matches although Lau gave her opponent, Julia Barden, a run before falling 6-2, 6-3.
Because of time restraints in the afternoon, only the singles matches were played. UH Hilo captured the Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6 singles to win the overall match. However Robertson and
Marisa Luna (Kahului, Maui, Hawai'i/Maui) gave their opponents all they could handle on their respective courts.
Robertson and Luna lost their first singles sets, 6-2 and 6-3, respectively. Robertson was down 5-1 and Luna trailed 5-1 when the match ended.
UH Hilo improved to 4-8 on the year while CUH fell to 0-10.
The 'Swords will end their season Wednesday when they host Cal Lutheran for Senior Day at Keehi Lagoon Park.
